This happened because the cell pouch did not have much space to accommodate the battery assembly. The other factors mentioned that contributed to the problem are, deformed upper corner of batteries, thin separators and absent insulation tape.

After the mishap happened due to the batteries supplied by manufacturer A, Samsung turned to another option that has been named as just manufacturer B in the report. But the welding defect persisted resulting in self-heating and short-circuit.

The team of investigators from Samsung also conducted a thorough checking of the various features of Galaxy Note 7 including fast charging, water resistance and iris scanner to find out if they are in some way responsible for the problem. The result shows that, these features have nothing to do with the overheating and exploding of the product.
